ACCESSIBILITY

Our websites and government standard compliance

This Historic Scotland website has been built to comply with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative double AA standards. The website also conforms to the UK government guidelines for websites. XHTML-transitional, CSS 1.0, WAI WCAG Level 2 have been set as technical standards.

Every effort is made to meet these standards, however, there may be third party sections of the website, microsites or content which may not be fully compliant.  We are continually working to improve accessibility, so please tell us of any issues you may have by emailing the Digital Media Team

Screen readers

The webpages on this website are designed to be used with screen readers, so that visually impaired users can easily access the content and navigate the site.

PDF documents

Some of our publications such as forms and leaflets are available to download in Portable Document Format (PDF).  PDF files can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free download available from the Adobe website.

The Adobe website provides information to help make Adobe PDF files accessible to users with visual disabilities, it also has online conversion tools which make PDF’s more accessible

Audio files

This site may contain audio files in MP3 format. You can download Windows Media Player free of charge from Microsoft. You can listen to MP3 files using the free QuickTime Player from Apple.

Language

Some of the information on our main website is available in Gaelic. There are also Gaelic educational resources
